About Anne Koehlinger

Anne Koehlinger is a soon-to-be graduate of Illinois Virtual School, College Prep with a passion for culinary arts and economics.  Once she graduates, she hopes to attend a two- or four-year institution in order to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Studies. Her ultimate goal is to someday operate her own restaurant. Anne Koehlinger realizes, however, that owning a business in the food service industry requires exceptional culinary arts skills and entrepreneurial experience. Fortunately she is no stranger to entrepreneurship.

While spending the summer at her family’s vacation home one year, Anne Koehlinger discovered an affinity for making handcrafted jewelry. Shortly after, she began selling her own unique jewelry by the lake without realizing that she would gain a customer base and a sense of entrepreneurship. Since then, Anne Koehlinger has maintained this entrepreneurial spirit. She hopes to apply the business skills she learned from this experience after completing her undergraduate studies.

Anne Koehlinger also realizes that she will need to acquire culinary certification to succeed as a chef and restaurant owner. She can do so by enrolling in a culinary arts program from a two- or four-year institution. Most restaurant managers and restaurant entrepreneurs also have to go through rigorous hands-on training in an internship or apprenticeship to gain experience working in a fast-paced environment. These culinary arts programs and internships are provided so that students gain scientific understanding in food prep, culinary artistry, practical knowledge, and integral managerial and leadership skills.

Anne Koehlinger’s passion for culinary arts was further reinforced when she was given the opportunity to visit the most prestigious city of food culture in the world: Paris, France. Her parents surprised her with this trip so she could dine in upscale Parisian restaurants and meet some of the world’s top chefs. This included visits with the Head Chefs at The Seaside Restaurant and Capella Pedregal, where she got to taste authentic French cuisine and express her passion for cooking. To this day, Anne Koehlinger continues to search for the ideal culinary arts program that will enable her to pursue her passion for cooking and goal of owning a restaurant.
